Why Teach?

I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was in third grade and would line up my stuffed animals and barbies and teach to them what I had learned that day in school. One of my main reasons why I decided I wanted to be a teacher is that I have had so many teachers make such an impact on my life, that I want to be able to do the same for my future students. I decided to add a minor is special education about a year and a half ago when I started nannying a little bot who is autistic. Learning about Parker and how his brain worked, was hard. So, I got to looking at my education degree to see if I was going to take any courses that would help me not only with Parker but with my future students that would be in my class. To my findings I was only going to take one class, in my whole degree. So I decided I wanted to learn more and do more in that aspect, so I added the minor not only to help myself, but to help others.

As far as grade wise in teaching I want to be in the higher level of elementary, being either 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade. I have always loved this age group, whether working with them in church, at a daycare, or just playing with them, I thrive with this age group. I will teach any subject that is needed, I have no preference when it comes to that. With that being said though in my above paragraph, I stated that I am adding a minor in special education so further down the road after being in the classroom for a little bit, I might want to see that side solely from the eye of the special education side of it. I have such a passion for teaching and helping shape children's minds to ensure the future of their education. I want to make an impact on the students the same way that they will make an impact on mine. I am a very determined person, so I will do anything for these kids to ensure their success in and out of my classroom.

  1. It is so neat that you are so committed to learning the most you can to serve all of future students that you added special education as a minor. I have always felt that having had only one sped course for my entire undergraduate degree was not enough. We see eye to eye on that point.

  2. Hey Taylor, I love that aside from choosing to be a teacher you have also decided to minor in special education. I have a brother that has special needs so having a special education teacher like you that is so passionate can definitely make a difference.
